Winter in Waco

Winter in Waco is arguablely the best Waco. Over the month of December I found ways to make the season feel just as jolly as it would back home.

The thing that made it feel super Christmas-y was adding a Christmas tree to my dorm. Lighting it up after getting back from classes made it feel super cozy.

Also it helped to take a day trip to Dallas. With all the stores decked out in Christmas decor, it made the city feel like a Hallmark movie.

I also found my love for wrapping presents! It literally my favorite thing to do now, and best of all I got everything from Target (literally no one is surprised hehe).

A Weekend in Dallas

To celebrate my 19th birthday a few of my friends and I decided to take a weekend trip to Dallas. Leaving early in the morning on Saturday, we wanted to make most of our time outside of Waco.

First, we decided to grab brunch right out of downtown Dallas. We choose a place in the Bishops are a district. Here we also stumbled upon some cute boutiques and this sign.

After getting settled in our hotel and wandering downtown, we had a reservation at Wolfgang Puck's restaurant at around 9:00. The food there was THE BEST ever, and I want to go literally every day (which is unfortunately unrealistic).

Sunday morning we tried to squeeze in as much as possible before we had to leave. We stopped by Carlos' bakery because who can say no to the cake boss? And for the record, they really do have the best cannolis.

Finally, we ended the trip by walking around Highland Park and taking pictures. This picture is from the BIRD cafe.

Deep in Downtown Phoenix

A little trip to downtown Phoenix never hurt anybody! Though I'd share some of my favorite pictures that I took while spending the day there!

Navigating Life Through Failures

First Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”

As many of us have, I used to let my life be dictated by the failures and successes I encountered. I assumed that if someone achieved something that meant either
a.  I should be doing that too
b. they are better than me and my self worth would diminish further

Over the past four years failure has pushed me to grow more than I ever thought possible. From my friendships, relationships, work, and school I struggled in almost every aspect. I remember thinking that it was so odd that suddenly everything became harder and more stressful. Looking back, I can now clearly see that it was life changing and rearranging things for me so that I would later be able to firmly establish myself as a person.

My "failure" began in one of my classes sophomore year of high school. I would study for hours and hours, and then wake up two hours earlier than usual to study again. Although my effort was there, the grade was not. I couldn't understand why my dedicated studying and focus wasn't helping with the test. Soon the class ended and my body ached from the grade I "earned". In reaction, I developed an extreme amount of test anxiety which still causes chaos in my life today. To say tests don't stress me out still would be a lie, however, I have learned a valuable lesson. You do not always earn failure, and failure does not define you.

With the knowledge that I am not my failures, I then began the quest to find out just who I was. For some time I wandered around mindlessly guessing at who I thought I was or could be. After some time I made a harsh discovery. For although I am not my failures, I am the lessons I have learned from them. I began to notice that my core personality traits and distinctions originated from my failures. What made me my own person was the challenges that I went through that later formed my unique thoughts and morals.

Soon after this realization, my luck began to change. I was passing tests and successfully maintaining my stress. What was supposed to be challenging, now seemed easy because I entered tasks fully prepared and equipped. And I know this is not a ground breaking discovery. The phrase, "If is doesn't kill you it makes you stronger", seems to be plastered on every motivational poster, but sometimes we forget the weight of that statement. We forget that everything has a purpose, and has a place in God's plan for us.

As a Christian this just shows the loyalty and compassion of Christ in our day to day life. Although we are put in these times of stress and disappoint, God promises us that we will be delivered from the hard times. My deliverance from this type of failure took years, which means God was hard at work at this time preparing me for what He knew was in my future. I encourage you to not not become discouraged from failure, but instead maybe become a little excited because that means God is working to prepare you for something great.

Best Products on Amazon for an Organized Dorm

Now let's get started! While trying to sort through countless online stores and simitanousely scour through Pinterest, I was on the hunt for the best dorm room design. However,  I had to come to the conclusion that the perfect dorm room does not exist. To my dismay, there is no amount of wall decor or arrangement of storage bins that will be perfect for everyone, and allow you to bring everything you own to college. With that being said, through this hunt I was able to find a few products on Amazon that could help maximize the limited space available, and keep what you bring organized.

White Roller Cart

This is by far the best thing I have found! These are white roller carts that are seem pretty deep, and has a decent surface area. I actually am super excited to roll it out from under my bed (sounds kinda weird)! Anyway, I am planning on using this as storage for snacks, t-shirts, or shoes. Of course, not all together! Ha!

Tan Storage Bins

I think these are super cool, and are amazing storage! These would be extra amazing if you decide to loft your bed. I didn't decide to purchase these because my bed isn't lofted and I wasn't sure how much space I would have, but these would definitely be amazing for under-the-bed storage or even in a closet.

Anyone remember these from one of those informercials that was always on tv? Well turns out these are actually super useful. Personally, my dorm room closet is very small, and my wardrobe is very large. Having something like this will definitely maximize my limited closet space.

Shoe Organizer

Now this is amazing for whether you are going to college or not. This allows you to neatly organize all your shoes, and be able to bring more than you probably should.

It is better safe than sorry, and I am not going to take any chances when it comes to bedbugs. The mattresses that come in the dorm are not always clean and you do not know where its been. So when I go in the fall I am going to put on this nice, clean cover that will protect me from any potential creepy bugs that might want to show up.

Even more under the bed storage! These are also perfect for storing things for under the bed! Super slim, these could be put side by side or on stacked.

Now these are just simple mesh laundry hampers. However, I particularly like these because of all of the side pockets that can hold laundry detergent and all that jazz!

Summer OOTD

Here is an outfit that I have been loving for the REALLY hot summer days. The dress is from Zara and has a great lightweight material that is also very durable.

My headband is actually a scarf that I grabbed from Madewell in the fall, so I am not sure if it is still there. I tried linking some very similar (or better) ones!

My bag in this photo is from Rebecca Minkoff, and I have had it for years.

Why I Started My Blog

"As my first blog post I decided to do something simple. This is just a cotton plant that grew outside my house. Yes, I understand it is a weed, but I always try to find the beauty in something that seems discouraging. I believe more people today need to realize this and appreciate it. Whatever is happening to you is important because that one experience can only happen to you. I mean other people can go through the same thing, but not with your view point and knowledge. So often I find people saying that they have just gone through a negative experience that's when I tend to question them. Was it really a negative experience? In everything you do comes something great whether that be a new opportunity or a chance to make an impact in something or someone. Now, with that being said something like anxiety and if you have experienced it before you know that it is very hard to get through, but whether you believe it or not there is some good in anxiety. Anxiety gives you knowledge and experience. After going through so many panic attacks I now know how to help someone else when going through it. I would not have been able to otherwise and I find that great. To sum it up you can use everything to your advantage. I challenge you to take one negative experience and find something great about it.I assume you now realize that this is a chance to get my feelings out. That can range from bullying and depression to fashion and beauty. This is just something that can help me vent and hopefully help someone else. I would also like to say thank you for reading this, and it really means a lot.                                                                                                                    Yours Truly"

What you just read is a blog post I had written in the fall of 2013. I was just 13 years old and blogging seemed so interesting and cool, but I lacked the resources to pursue it further. And when I say I lacked the resources, I actually mean I lacked the confidence and ambition. However, as I grew older and gained new confidence, I found myself being drawn to elements of blogging all of the time. Whether it was a secret instagram, crazily taking pictures of outfits, or even writing what seemed like blog posts in my journal. Blogging has been part of my life for forever, I've grown with it and watched it evolve.

So, with that being said I understand a lot of people turn up their noses at blogging, thinking it is a waste of time. I understand how it seems silly, and useless. BUT it is so much more to me than that. It's a way to express what I am feeling, loving, or even just my outfit. Now this is really going to seem silly when I say, God has called to blogging. There is a reason why I came back year after year, and looking back it seems as though God has been politely nudging metime after time to do something he has partly created me to do. I think blogging holds more power than people think, a strength that can move mountains or clothes.

My June Favorites

Here are a few of my favorites from this past month!

Omega - 3 Supplement

This is a supplement that I have been taking for about six months now, and have seen a real improvement in my health and skin! Essentially just fish oil and other fatty acids, it made my skin feel moisturized and my nails grow stronger.
These things might seem intimidating at first, because c'mon they are huge, but after a while it becomes second nature. I get mine off amazon for about twenty bucks, which lasts me about a month.

Love Beauty and Planet Body Wash

This body wash is amazing for so many reasons, and is one of the best I have ever tried. Its scent of murumuru butter and rose smells girly and moisturizing. The formula in itself if very smooth and hydrates the skin for days. It was does not hurt that it is made of clean ingredients and environmental friendly packaging.

Butter Bronzer

I just started using bronzer, and was a bit skeptical when I started wearing it. I was worried it would like fake or like I smeared dirt all over my face. However, this is a very natural looking bronzer that is pretty much matte. At a drugstore price it has really great pigmentation and texture.

A guide to San Diego

Recently I took a trip down to San Diego and had a blast while over there. I found so many fun, interesting, and unique things to do  there and thought it might be appropriate to share!

First things first: the beach. If you take a trip all the way down there and don't even bother going to the beach, then I believe you missed the point of going all together. The beach is very clean, and the sand is soft and warm. When thinking of California beaches, I usually think of gross sand, cold water, and millions of people. However, I was pleasantly surprised to be met with the exact opposite. It was nice, clean, and very beautiful.

Secondly, the food. There are such amazing places to eat all along the pacific beach boardwalk, and it's hard to choose a favorite. So, here is a highlight reel of all of my favorites:

  • Woody's located along the boardwalk, it's a small restaurant that is known for their amazing breakfast. Now, while I can attest that their breakfast is amazing, what's really a showstopper is their potatoes. From fries to rosemary seasoned potatoes, their fries are the best I have ever had.
  • World's Famous now if you have ever been to San Diego you have probably  heard of this place. It's a very nice restaurant that is famous for their half priced appetizers. Their appetizers are very large and are a full meal. The food was AMAZING, and if I could, I would eat there everyday.
  • Better Buzzed Coffee this coffee shop is super popular and trendy right now, and rightfully so. I expected a wonderful atmosphere and some not so great coffee. Happily I can say that I was proven wrong, their honey latte is one the best lattes I have ever had (and I've had way too many). I would suggest stopping by there, snapping a few pics, and picking up a great coffee.
  • Lucky Donuts as a last minute decision we decided to go pick up some donuts to eat on the beach. This place had great reviews and seemed to be reasonably cheap. These donuts were so good and fluffy! For their price, the donuts were so delicious and had the best frosting.

Photo Ops: There are so many places to take pretty photos, and that was my personal favorite part of San Diego. All the houses were so brightly colored, which made the place seem very tropical and happy.  The sunsets were beautiful and were basically begging to be photographed. Here are few pictures we took while there!

Moving On and Moving Out

Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.
Genesis 28:15

There are critical points in our life that we let define us. The realization of a passion, an epiphany in faith, a venture into love.  These countless pink walls have housed all these precious and immeasurable experiences. This house has become a symbol and part of me over these four short years.

This journey began with the move in process. A big new city I had yet to call home, and a house that didn't even have hot water. The first night I spent in this house I cried out of exhaustion. It was my body preparing itself to let go of the mundane and embrace the unforeseen future. As the walls filled with pictures, and the dishes were in the cabinets, the place became home. At night, as the house would make creeks and settle deeper into the old foundation, I was just beginning to settle into my own. Each person that passed through the doorway and trafficked into my heart of a house left a footprint that could not be altered. Some people only stayed the night, but others have never left. This home housed my shifts of perspective and the pain it included.

This house was my sweet escape of the judgmental world I had met in these years. As I changed my mind and my taste, it would willingly welcome the new paint and furnishings that came with it. There was no criticism or complaint, it was my free canvas to make my living space the haven I had always wanted. As a result my passion thrived, and my future career took form. This house gave way to a future that I could and should love.

This house was the beginning of the self exploration that led me to be the person I am today. As life presented me with hardships, the house gave me a wall to lean on. The carpet soaked up my tears and elevated me to place of higher thinking. This house allowed me to gain my independence.

Now, it is the time to say goodbye. I am off to somewhere new and foreign. Saying goodbye is one of the hardest things I'll ever do, but it is not with out purpose. Great things aren't meant to last forever for their qualities would soon become mundane. Revisting the old seems dim, like I am taking steps backwards. However, I have to believe that this is for the good, and something greater will arise.

So here's to you little pink house.

We'll miss you and never forget you.

P, S. I can't wait to see the things we do.
